Wedding Advice | How to Make your Oahu Elopement EXTRA Special!

Elopement Advice from an Oahu Wedding Photographer

So, you are thinking about eloping on Oahu! The picture of a “traditional wedding” is all around us: on Instagram, Pinterest, our friends experiences… but you can still have a heartfelt and gorgeous wedding day without going the “traditional” route. I’ve shot weddings with 0 guests and weddings with 350 guests. All wedding days are special! Personally, I chose to “elope” with our 19 closest friends and family and I DO NOT regret it one bit. It was important to me in my elopement experience that I didn’t feel like I was missing out on all the special little things that make a wedding day unique and fun. So here is my advice for having the perfect elopement on Oahu!

Photography & Video:

First and foremost, your Oahu Elopement deserves epic photos, so do not skimp on your elopement photography or videography. This is especially important because with no guests or maybe just a few, there will be loved ones back home who want to see your special day captured, perfectly!

Wedding Dress + Suit:

Eloping doesn’t mean you have to miss out on your dream wedding gown or that super stylish custom suit. You can still go wedding dress shopping with all your girlfriends and make a day of it. Whatever it is that you’ve always wanted to wear on your wedding day, eloping does not stop you from going BIG with your attire.

Florals:

I can’t stress enough how impactful florals can be to your Oahu elopement photos. You want florals! Go big! Bouquets, leis, haku leis, boutonnieres – go all out! There’s nothing that says, “We’re getting married today!” like some lush wedding day florals.

Vow Books:

As a photographer, I love the addition of vow books to recent wedding day trends. They look so beautiful in your photos and are also a gorgeous keepsake from your big day. A good friend of mine and her husband take out their vow books on every anniversary and re-read their wedding vows to one another. Cue the tears!

the perfect oahu elopement location

Location:

Location and timing are vital to beautiful elopement photos AND an incredible Oahu elopement experience. I assist all of my couples with helping to plan the timing of their elopement. The beauty of eloping is you have SO MUCH FREEDOM to plan the day you want. We don’t have to rush through beautiful lighting because you need to get to your reception. We can really take advantage of the perfect Oahu Elopement Location you have chosen!

Celebration:

Your Oahu elopement is worth celebrating! Make reservations at a fancy restaurant – wear your wedding attire! Soak in all that joy when onlookers yell, “Congratulations!” Michel’s at the Colony Surf is the fanciest and most delicious date night my husband have ever had. I highly recommend making reservations there to celebrate your elopement!
