Oahu Engagement Session | Getting Prepared for Your Engagement Session

IT’S TIME TO CELEBRATE YOUR ENGAGEMENT!

Now that you have picked a date, a photographer, and probably a venue as well, you can celebrate! Those are some of the toughest decisions in wedding planning and you can cross them off your list! Hooray!! Now on to the fun stuff…. like your Oahu engagement session! If you’ve opted out of this shoot, no worries. If we do have a session scheduled, during your photoshoot you’ll have the chance to get to know us, experience how we shoot and how we handle posing and lighting. This session will make a HUGE impact on how your wedding day flows. We’ll arrive on your wedding day already knowing how you two interact, what your best poses are and how to photograph you in a genuine way. What we will learn about you during your Oahu engagement session is invaluable! You will feel like such a pro on your big day because of the great practice you had during your Oahu engagement session and that’s how it should be!

Scheduling and location

We normally suggest booking your Oahu Engagement Session it at least 3-6 months in advance to avoid stress. Because our weekends are filled with weddings, we typically shoot engagements on weekday evenings.
As you start to plan for your Oahu engagement session, you will need to start brainstorming about location ideas. We LOVE it when couples pick a location that is special or sentimental to them in some way! If you can’t think of anywhere specific, don’t sweat it. We know all the best spots around the islands! We shoot everywhere: at tropical beaches, lava rocks, engagements on a resort, and even cute places around the island. Seriously, we are here for you! And if you decide to pick a new spot we haven’t been to before, even better. We love exploring and going on a new adventure!

Outfit Inspiration

If you are planning to have your Oahu engagement photos taken in a brewery, wearing a formal dress and tux wouldn’t make sense! You would stick out like a sore thumb, not to mention the funny looks you would be getting! Know your location, and dress appropriately. We love when couples make one of their outfits something they are comfortable in. For some people that’s a tropical romper or a Hawaiian shirt, and for some that is a beautiful maxi dress or a nice navy suit! Remember, there is no wrong way to do this!

Think about what you like to wear, what you look good in, and start there! There is nothing wrong with wearing your favorite dress for your engagement photos, instead of buying something new. If you feel confident, do your thing! We recommend sticking to a base color (denim, white, etc.) and about two more colors. Mixing too many colors can look busy and distract from your beautiful faces! It’s also a good rule to not mix patterns. This can look crowded and clash. But don’t forget, we are in Hawaii! Let’s get our tropical on!
