Wai’alae Beach Family Photos – Oahu Vacation Photographer

A Stylish Family Photo Session at the Kahala Hotel, Honolulu

There is something so special about photographing a brand new family! This was baby’s first vacation and Mom and Dad made sure her first trip to Oahu was documented properly with professional family photos. This cute family was staying in the heart of Waikiki, but I always recommend to my clients that we shoot elsewhere. Why?

Waikiki is a popular spot for vacationers to stay and play, but it is not the best place for your family photos.

1). Parking: Waikiki parking is hard to find and expensive.

2). Permits: Many resorts DO NOT allow “outside photographers” to shoot on their properties.

3). People: Waikiki is BUSY and crowded and you simply won’t get those epic and empty views you are hoping for.

4). Poor Lighting: Waikiki beach is BRIGHT most of the day. It’s the kind of unflattering light that most photographers avoid at all costs.

Instead, I always recommend my clients take the 20 minute drive or uber ride to Wai’alae Beach Park, located next to The Kahala Hotel, for their family or couple photos. As you can see its a beautiful location with all the gorgeous and people free views! You still get all the Hawaiian vacation vibes and some seriously perfect lighting to boot.
